Flu season is upon us
Influenza is gross, and you just don’t have time to be that sick. Fortunately, there are some easy steps you can take to prevent the spread of the flu.
Get your free flu vaccine
This month, all Albertans six months and older can get a free immunization at clinics in the city (including one here on campus). Find an immunization clinic near you.
If you do get sick, cover your cough
Keep your germs to yourself! Cover your nose and mouth with your arm or a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Wash your hands after you blow your nose. Also, stay home as much as possible when you’re sick. If you need to miss class, you can get a statutory declaration from one of the 23 Commissioners of Oaths on campus.
Wash your hands – a lot
Use soap and warm water to wash your hands frequently, and thoroughly. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer is great to have close by for after touching debit machines, door knobs, buttons in the elevator, railings and so forth.
Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth – all are easy entry points for flu germs.
Eat well and sleep often
Keeping up with your rest can help keep you from getting sick. If you can, get a good night’s rest and have as many healthy-balanced meals as you can. If you’re grabbing food on the go, try to chose higher protein options that can help your cells recover quicker
