John Schleppe

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of our alumnus and friend John Schleppe on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. John graduated from the inaugural class of Surveying Engineering in 1981, earning our department's first APEGGA medal. His work took him around the world and then back to Calgary where he completed an MSc under the supervision of Gérard Lachapelle in 1996. From 2004 to 2006 he was a research associate in the PLAN group before moving to NovAtel first as a research engineer, then manager and, most recently, NovAtel Research Fellow. John served as treasurer of the Institute of Navigation Alberta Section from 1998 until his passing and was instrumental in the ongoing success of the several ION sponsored undergraduate and graduate scholarships we award annually. He was an accomplished engineer, and a good mentor and friend to many of us.

Funeral Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
