Spend a weekend away with your peers at the winter edition of Camp LEAD
For those who don’t live here, southern Alberta sounds like a pretty cold place. However, for the long term and recent residents of the Calgary area who enjoy the warmth of chinooks every couple of weeks, southern Alberta winters are an ideal time to leave the city, enjoy nature and (weather permitting) bask in the winter sun.
At Camp LEAD, fun in the winter sun or s’mores beside a crackling fire are two things that are wholly embraced. Offered twice per year, the winter edition of the weekend-long event offers UCalgary students a break from city life and a chance to connect with one another in leadership development workshops and fun activities like ice skating, snowshoeing, hiking and campfires.
In addition to social events, Camp LEAD is also a reflective experience. The workshop component asks students to think creatively about their future plans, set goals, and reflect on how deeply held personal values can inform their next step. Using Life Design tools and aspects of Indigenous oral storytelling traditions, students can re-centre themselves, and reconnect with a sense of purpose in what can often be a challenging time of year.
This year's winter event takes place from Feb. 24 to 26 at Alberta Pioneer Lodge in Sundre, Alberta. The registration fee for the program is $110 and covers the cost of student transportation to from the university, food, lodging and activities.
