UCalgary launches search for next chancellor
A prominent ambassador for the University of Calgary, the chancellor is an advocate for advancing the university’s vision and making connections with the community. With current chancellor Deborah Yedlin’s four-year term coming to a close this July, the UCalgary Senate has launched its search for her successor.
The chancellor chairs the Senate, presides over convocation and confers degrees on our next generation of leaders, serves as a member of the Board of Governors, and participates in activities that deepen our connection to the community.
“The chancellor plays a pivotal role in advancing the University of Calgary’s academic and research goals, through meaningful engagement with, and service to, the Calgary community,” says Aaron Park, BSc (Eng)’07, BEdP’11, UCalgary senator and co-chair of the Chancellor Search Committee.
The position includes a number of commitments both on and off campus, including engaging with students through the Chancellor’s Club Scholars, granting honorary degrees, attending Senate and Board of Governors meetings, participating in institutional events, and raising funds for student awards through various initiatives.
“The ideal candidate for this position is someone who’s connected to the Calgary community, who has a passion for learning and discovery, and who is committed to diversity, education, research and service,” says senator and committee co-chair, Narmin Ismail-Teja.
We’re looking for someone to proudly tell our story to the world and be a positive force to help shape the future of our university.
As one of the university’s most senior volunteers, the chancellor will join an innovative and vibrant community, playing a key role in communicating the story of Canada’s most entrepreneurial university.
Interested candidates must submit a letter of interest and resumé on or before Feb. 22, 2022, to be considered. The application form and additional information about the role can be found on the Chancellor Search web page.
The submission process is open to all. UCalgary encourages candidates from all backgrounds. If you need accommodations in any area of this application process, or if you have questions about the position, please contact chancellorsearch@ucalgary.ca.
