UCalgary ranked in Top 10 nationally by Maclean’s
In Maclean’s 2020 university rankings, the University of Calgary ranked 9th overall in the Top Medical / Doctoral category, up from 11th place last year. This category includes universities that offer a broad range of research and PhD programs, and have medical schools.
UCalgary saw a positive trend in the annual rankings, with third place rankings for operating budget and the student-to-faculty ratio indicators. The university also made significant improvements in four other indicators, including total research dollars, library acquisitions, library expenses, and scholarships and bursaries. Within the area of reputation and student satisfaction, UCalgary improved in four indicators, including Administrative Staff, Mental Health Service, Steps to Prevent Sexual Assault, and Student Life Staff, demonstrating the strong commitment the university has to a positive community for our students.
The university’s performance on the reputation indicator has improved in the past five years, up from #19 in 2014 to #9 this year. This list combines all the universities from the three overall categories (Primarily Undergraduate, Comprehensive and Medical / Doctoral) into one group. Maclean’s surveyed university faculty and senior administrators, high school guidance counsellors, and a variety of business people across the country, asking for their views on quality and innovation at Canadian universities.
